WatchWorld Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the WatchWorld Android app (package com.WatchWorld,
"the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. WatchWorld is developed by Valentijn
("the developer"). The app helps you find out where movies and TV shows can be streamed, rented or
bought in countries around the world.
- WatchWorld has no user accounts and does not ask for your name, email address or other contact details.
- The developer does not run any servers and does not collect, store or sell your personal data.
- Your country setting and "remove ads" status are stored only on your device.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may use your device's advertising ID and similar data to show and measure ads.
- Movie and TV information comes from The Movie Database (TMDB). Purchases are handled by Google Play.
1. Information stored on your device
The app saves a small amount of information locally, in the app's private storage on your phone:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Your country (a two-letter code such as "NL" or "US") | Highlights which services are available in your own country. On first launch it is guessed on your device from your SIM card, mobile network or language/region settings; you can change it at any time in Settings. It is never sent to the developer. |
| Whether you bought "Remove ads" | Lets the app hide ads immediately, including when you are offline. This value is excluded from Android cloud backup and device transfer. |
The app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files. The country setting may be included in your device's standard Android backup to your Google account if you have backup enabled; this backup is managed by Google, not by the developer.
You can delete all locally stored data by clearing the app's storage in Android settings or by uninstalling the app.
2. Movie and TV data (TMDB)
WatchWorld retrieves titles, posters, cast information and streaming availability from
The Movie Database (TMDB).
When you browse or search, your device connects directly to TMDB's servers
(api.themoviedb.org and image.tmdb.org). TMDB receives the request itself
(for example, the search text you type or the title you open) together with technical information
that is part of any internet connection, such as your IP address. No account or personal identifier
is sent. TMDB's handling of this data is described in the
TMDB Privacy Policy.
Streaming availability data is provided to TMDB by JustWatch. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of WatchWorld is supported by ads: a banner at the bottom of the screen and at most one full-screen ad per app session. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited.
What AdMob may collect
To deliver, personalise, measure and prevent fraud in ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK built into the app may automatically collect:
- Your device's advertising ID (Android Advertising ID)
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, language and app version
- Ad interaction data, such as which ads were shown and whether they were tapped
- Diagnostic and performance information, such as crash logs related to ads
This data is collected and processed by Google, not by the developer. The developer only receives aggregated, non-identifying reports (for example, how many ads were shown). Google may use this data to show you ads based on your interests (personalised ads), as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Consent
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or a US state with a consumer privacy law, the app shows a consent message from Google's User Messaging Platform before any ads are requested. There you can accept, reject or choose which purposes and ad partners may use your data. No ads are loaded until this choice allows it. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under Settings > Privacy settings in the app.
Your ad choices
- Privacy settings in the app: where a consent message applies, open Settings > Privacy settings to review or change your consent.
- Limit personalised ads: on Android, open Settings > Google > Ads (or Settings > Privacy > Ads) to reset or delete your advertising ID. When it is deleted, apps can no longer use it for personalised ads.
- Google ad settings: manage your ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
- Remove ads entirely: buy the one-time "Remove ads" option in the app's Settings. After purchase, the app no longer loads any ads.
4. In-app purchases (Google Play Billing)
The "Remove ads" purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. The developer never sees or stores your payment details. Google provides the app with confirmation that the purchase is owned, so that ads can be removed and the purchase can be restored on reinstall or on another device using the same Google account. Google's handling of payment data is covered by the Google Payments Privacy Notice. The developer receives standard order information through the Google Play Console (such as the order number, date, price and country), which is used only for accounting, tax and support.
5. Links to other websites
When you tap a streaming service, a VPN offer or a similar button, the app opens an external website in your browser or in the service's own app. Some of these links are affiliate or referral links (for example, Amazon Prime Video and Surfshark VPN), which means the developer may earn a commission if you sign up or buy something. These sites may use cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies; WatchWorld has no control over them. For services without a known website, the app opens a Google search for the service and title.
6. How data is used and shared
Summarising the above, data is used only to:
- show movie and TV information and where it can be watched (TMDB);
- show and measure ads in the free version (Google AdMob);
- process and restore the "Remove ads" purchase (Google Play).
The developer does not sell personal data, does not build user profiles and does not share data with anyone other than the service providers named in this policy. All network connections made by the app use encrypted HTTPS.
7. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland:
- Retrieving movie data and remembering your settings is necessary to provide the app you asked for (performance of a contract / legitimate interest).
- Advertising and the use of your advertising ID rely on your consent, collected through the in-app consent message before any ads are requested. Depending on your choices, Google may show non-personalised or limited ads, which still use limited data such as IP address for delivery, fraud prevention and measurement. You can withdraw consent at any time under Settings > Privacy settings.
- Purchase records are kept to meet legal and tax obligations.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because the developer does not hold personal data about you, most requests are best directed to the relevant provider:
- Ads and advertising ID: Google Data & Privacy
- Movie data requests: TMDB
- Local app data: clear the app's storage or uninstall the app
You are always welcome to contact the developer with any question (see below).
9. Data retention
Data stored on your device is kept until you change it, clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google and TMDB is retained according to their own policies. Purchase records are kept by Google and, where required, by the developer for as long as tax law requires.
10. Children
WatchWorld is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) and does not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us so it can be addressed.
11. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app changes, for example when new features or service providers are added. The updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
12. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact the developer at spileyapp@gmail.com.
